Winston is 12 years old and needs a forever family now! He will turn 14 in November 2016. He will need his new family in country by then to adopt him.
Winston came into care in November 2002 as a newborn. His given last name is shared by all the children who entered the orphanage in 2002 and his given first name conveys the hope that he would grow up happily. Winston resided in the institute from November 2002 until March 2003. At that time he moved into a foster family where he lived until 2008 (age 6). It is noted in the file that Winston transitioned well back into the orphanage and has remained living there to date.
The foster family stated that Winston is adored by everyone in the family. He is extroverted and not shy around strangers. He talks and laughs with everyone he meets, he is very kind and gets along well with others. He attends regular school where he is an average student but a favorite of his teachers. An old report from the orphanage (circa 2008) stated he was learning to count and speak in English. He is best known for his drawing and is very proud of his artistic abilities. Winston’s artwork is often displayed at school as well. Winston is completely independent in daily self-care and is a good helper around the institute. He is a good sleeper and an average eater.
Winston’s medical file states he is healthy and includes the diagnoses of heterotropia and astigmatism. He needs a family with access to an excellent eye physician and a cool pair of glasses! Notes from his school teacher state he is able to see things up close but not far away, so he sits in the front row of the classroom and has no issues participating due to his diagnoses. Winston’s medical file is several years old and the advocates would love for an interested family to request an update on how Winston is doing in the institute and in school. We are wagering that it has not slowed him down one bit!
In December 2010 a WACAP staff person met Winston in person. She had this to say about him:
Winston is currently living at the orphanage and attends regular school. He started school two years late due to his eye issues and he does average in his classes, but his teachers like him. His favorite class is English and he is able to count to ten in English. He likes to help with chores and his favorite food is ramen noodles. When he grows up he wants to be a police officer so that he can catch thieves. He likes to read comic books and play with balls and lions are his favorite animals. Winston is a polite boy who covered his mouth when he coughed and bowed when he left the room. He is described as smart, friendly, and quick to communicate. He can see things that are close up but has difficulty seeing far away, so he sits at the front of the classroom in school.
